  • Payment is required by week 2 of the term, once you have received an invoice.
  • Adults may pay cash to the teacher for some classes on a casual basis.

sTUDENT aBSENCES

  • Once a student is enrolled in a term and starts the class, they are due to pay the whole term fee. No refunds will be given if they stop the class before the term ends.
  • If however, a student is away for more than 2 weeks sequentially on holiday or from illness/injury, ACD may be able to charge a reduced term fee. Please contact Sym directly via email.

water Bottles

  • Please bring along your own water bottle to every dance class. Hydration is important during vigorous exercise.
  • We discourage the sharing of water bottles and the use of our cups. (although these are available in case of a forgotten water bottle)

cLASS cANCELLATIONS

  • Unfortunately, sometimes a class will need to be cancelled due to teacher illness. ACD endeavours to substitute teachers if the usual teacher is not available, however if a class needs to be cancelled there is no refund, (as students pay for a minimum of 7 weeks of classes as noted above). Students are encouraged to come to an alternative class if their usual class is unfortunately cancelled. This class can be in a different style. Chat to your teacher or Sym.
  • ACD reserves the right to substitute teachers due to unavailability at short notice and may not be able to notify students of all substitutions.

Dancewear

  • All students are encouraged to wear tight fitting and stretchy clothing that is comfortable to move about in and allows full range of movement. This allows dance teachers to observe students’ posture and alignment and to instruct the dancer and facilitate their path to safe dance. A leotard or singlet and tights is recommended for most classes.
  • While we offer recommended dancewear as a guide, we understand that every body is different, and comfort plays an important role in learning and enjoyment. Our priority is that students feel safe, supported, and able to participate fully, so we welcome flexible, inclusive choices that suit individual needs while remaining appropriate for dance activity.  Please talk to your teacher.

where to buy

  • AC Dancewear is sold right here at the studio. We have new and secondhand items perfect for all your dancing needs, as well as hair accessories.

Great Australian online sites that I recommend are:

hair & jewellery

  • All students are required to have their hair back off their face in a tidy manner for their dance class.
  • All ballet students are required to have their hair in a  ballet bun for their ballet class. If you/your dancer has short hair, it just needs to be tidy and back off the face.
  • See the video made by ‘Bloch’ to see how to make a ballet bun. (if your dancer has less hair you will only need to make 1 twirl not 2), and the picture shows items needed to make a secure ballet bun.
  • Please remove jewellery before coming to dance class, as this can be a safety hazard or can easily become lost. Simple stud or sleeper ear rings are fine (nothing dangly).

HOW TO CREATE A BALLET BUN

Check where your bun is required. A low bun is down low near the neck. A bun at the crown is halfway.

  1. Start with a great ponytail! Get your hair straight and even, brushing it firmly to a ponytail. A little gel can help smooth things out and make it nice and tidy. Secure the ponytail with an elastic, the same colour as hair to ensure it won’t be seen. This needs to be thick and strong of you have long hair. Then use a tail comb to comb along the hair to remove any bumps.
  2. Lightly twist the ponytail to help hold it together as you wrap it around the base of the ponytail. Follow the direction you twisted your hair for a neat, tight bun. if you twisted clockwise, wrap clockwise. As you wrap secure with a few hair pins.
  3. To keep the bun tidy and stop hair falling, secure the bun with a hair net. Take the hair net and wrap one end of it around the whole of the bottom of your ballet bun, then pull the other end of the hairnet upwards. Now you need to twist the hair net before bringing it back down to the bottom of the bun, catching all of the loose bits of hair. Repeat again if needed to use the whole hairnet.
  4. Next you need more hair pins to your ballet bun to hold it securely in place. Take a little bit of the bun towards the edge, with the pin pointing downwards towards the head, then push the pin down and inwards towards the centre of the bun. Then place lots more hair pins into the bun the whole way round to secure.
  5. Finish off with hairspray to ensure there is no fly away hairs especially at the sides and fringe.
