Terms & Conditions
for Dance Classes
- All fees are due by Week 2 of each term. We have 4 terms per year, following the school year. Please double check start and end dates of dance classes though, as these may not follow the school dates exactly.
- Classes are charged to you by the term. We guarantee a minimum of 7 weeks (7 classes) per term, but most terms are longer and can be up to 10 weeks. The same fee is charged per term through the year whether the term is shorter or longer.
Student Absences
- If a student is away for more than 2 weeks sequentially on holiday or from illness/injury, ACD may be able to charge a reduced term fee. Please contact Sym directly via email.
- Random absences will not be refunded.
- Holiday workshops are non – refundable.
Class Cancellations
- Unfortunately, sometimes a class will need to be cancelled due to teacher illness. ACD endeavours to substitute teachers if the usual teacher is not available, however if a class needs to be cancelled there is no refund, (as students pay for a minimum of 7 weeks of classes as noted above). Students are encouraged to come to an alternative class if their usual class is unfortunately cancelled. This class can be in a different style. Chat to your teacher or Sym.
- Please note that during these uncertain times, ACD reserves the right to substitute teachers due to unavailability at short notice and may not be able to notify students of all substitutions.
- Due to being located in our wonderful regional area, ACD finds it hard to find qualified dance teachers to stand in when necessary and this is unfortunately when a class cancellation may be required.
- ACD programmes guest teachers throughout the year to enable students to experience different dance styles and teaching methods and to allow ACD teachers the opportunity to participate in Professional Development. You/your student may have a different teacher from time to time.

All students are encouraged to wear tight fitting and stretchy clothing that is comfortable to move about in and allows full range of movement. This allows dance teachers to observe students’ posture and alignment and to instruct the dancer and facilitate their path to safe dance. A leotard or singlet and tights is recommended for most classes.
*All dancewear is suggested only, and you or your dancer may feel more comfortable wearing something else. Please talk to your teacher.
Hair & Jewellery
All students are requested to tie up their hair off their face (including long fringes). When students' hair is out it can interfere with dance technique particularly in turns and can be dangerous if it gets caught. The same goes for dangly earrings, necklaces, bracelets, and watches. These are best left at home to reduce the risk of injury or loss. Suggested hair styles: Ballet: ballet bun. Contemporary & Acrodance: braid, plaits, pigtails
Little Legs
Whatever your little person feels comfortable in, or the Suggested Dancewear. That is a turquoise leotard and turquoise skirt, or turquoise singlet/t shirt and black/turquoise shorts. Ballet tights for ballet is fine, but the dancer needs to roll the tights up to have bare feet (convertible tights). Bare feet only.
Adults
Adults can choose from the suggested dancewear or wear something that is comfortable and appropriate for you. The most important thing is the correct footwear. Socks are a useful substitute for ballet shoes
Dance Shoes
Must be fitted correctly to the foot, and definitely not bigger. Students must be present at the shoe fitting and if unsure please check with your teacher. It's always a good idea to check with the teacher before wearing them so they can be returned if they are not correct.
Majors
As students become older they may want to cover up more. Tight-fitting bike shorts, long-sleeved tops and black tights are all ok options.
